ETHIOPIA
Girls in the Dubluk district in Ethiopia face countless obstacles to getting even a basic education. The community’s nomadic lifestyle as livestock herders makes it harder for children to go to school regularly. Plus, underage marriage for girls is sadly common.
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”
Proverbs 31:25
Now another challenge is keeping girls out of class: a lack of proper toilets.
At Dhoqole Catholic Primary School, girls are forced to share dilapidated toilets or pit toilets with boys. The lack of hygiene is especially unhealthful for girls, and the lack of privacy makes it impossible for them to manage their menstruation with the dignity they deserve. Instead, they face shame and ridicule.
This terrible problem is causing girls to quit school, which prevents them from bettering their lives.
Please help us build proper, biological sex-divided toilets that are safer and more secure.
These facilities are more than just physical structures — they represent our shared commitment to promoting the well-being of all girls and women.
DONATE NOW
Catholic World Mission spreads the Gospel of Christ by connecting donors to charitable projects. Through our devotion to living out the teachings of Christ, we strive to uplift impoverished African communities.
A single donation is an expression of humanity that has the power to transform lives. With your help, we can spread seeds of hope to end suffering, empower minds and instill faith.
The Impacts
of Poverty in African
Communities
Many African communities are fighting a battle against poverty. Every day, they struggle to survive without basic necessities like food, clean water and shelter. Your donations can fund Catholic charities that provide basic necessities and develop essential infrastructure. Together, we can help these communities thrive.
Empowering
African
Communities
The needs of the communities in Africa vary. While some communities are in dire need of clean drinking water, others are plagued by a lack of infrastructure. Our Catholic charity work in Africa aims to solve varying needs across the continent.
Some of our work includes:
- Building safe spaces to worship: There is currently no church hall for Catholics in Abuja, Nigeria. Your donation can help fund the construction of the St. Agnes Parish Catholic Church.
- Providing clean drinking water: Your gift can fund the construction of water towers and water sachets. These projects bring clean water to communities without access to this basic need.
- Developing accessible learning environments: Lack of infrastructure and resources are at the root of the education crisis in many African communities. Donations can fund projects that build learning environments and provide meals for students.
- Building safe facilities for orphans: There are roughly 50 million orphans in Africa. Many communities lack proper facilities to home these children. A small donation today can bring hope to orphaned children who need a safe place to live.
Alleviating Material and Spiritual Poverty Through Faith
At the Catholic World Mission, we partner with communities in need to help end the cycle of poverty. We foster long-term relationships by working alongside the community and listening to their needs.
Ongoing support from donors ensures the continual development of each community. This approach helps us identify the most critical needs to tailor an improvement plan. After solving the most vital needs, we can identify new ways to help communities thrive.
